I didn’t catch all of the Globes, but from what I did see there seemed to be a lot of fashion weirdness. I think maybe some of the forward thinking ideas are clashing with the vintage and embellished looks that are on trend. Such a difference from the clean modern glamour that referenced old Hollywood several years ago. Michelle Williams in that deep canary Vera Wang at the 2006 Academy Awards comes to mind. At this years Golden Globes, Lupita Nyong’o, however, was an exception in this stunning cape dress by Ralph Lauren. I also really liked Amy Adams in Valentino. They both get it right with the winning trilogy of bold color, simplicity and sophistication. I have yet to see American Hustle, but what I loved about Lupita’s performance in 12 Years a Slave was its simplicity. I almost feel as if her standout performance is reflected in her dress. She did just what was absolutely necessary to convey Patsey and much was said with just her movement and physicality. A winning look to complement a standout performance-that is what stars are made of.
