I can’t believe that after four years of living in Silver Lake, we have never dined at El Conquistador. Now, after 40 years of continuous business, the east side institution is closing due to rent increase. Gentrification is afoot. Although I’m sad the neighborhood is losing some of its character and I’m afraid we won’t be able to afford living here, I’m aware it’s just a part of the natural cycle of change in LA, in large cities and in life in general. After all, Echo Park in the 1920’s was where stars like Charlie Chaplin kept mansions. To be witness to the rapid changes happening right now in Echo Park and Silver Lake makes one feel-in spite of all the fear and regret an exhilaration to be a part of the ever evolving changes of a big city. #silverlake #losangeles #echopark #food #dinner (at El Conquistador)
